North Kingstown, Rhode Island

nkheader_thesis

North Kingstown is one of the most quaint towns in Rhode Island. It has a wonderful blend of historic significance in modern amenities. North Kingstown is the birthplace of America's premier portrait painter Gilbert Stuart. His birthplace and Museum continues to be a major touristy attraction.

But what makes North Kingstown such a unique place, is its combination of quaint small-town living and waterfront recreation. One can stroll through waterfront historic Wickford Village in the same fashion as shoppers from the 18th century did.  North Kingstown has its own town beach which is a cove off of Narragansett Bay so the waves are minimal and kids can have a blast without dangerous riptides.  Quonset point is a section of North Kingstown which used to house a tremendous naval population. There is a large air Museum which focuses on military aviation history as the Seabees, the airborne mechanics, were based right here. Today he Quonset point has been expanded tremendously in recent years. Quonset point provides more than 750 acres of prime industrial land which is now a bustling industrial Park.

Of North Kingstown's total 58.3 miles, nearly 15 of it is on waterfront. I can say from experience that one of the highlights of the holiday season is watching Santa come in by boat into Wickford Harbor to greet the kids. You don't see that in many places. Yes indeed, this once sleepy little one mill town/summer resort has become a destination point for many Rhode Islanders as their full time place to live.
